Pangmapha (Soppong)

Pangmapha (Soppong)
Pangmapha offers a distinct contrast to its closest neighbour of Pai.  Still relatively undiscovered by tourists Pangmapha has deep cultural roots with Thai's being one of the minorities in the region compared to the ethnic groups of the many hill tribe people living in this area.

Mae Hong Son

Mae Hong Son
The mother of the Province Mae Hong Son is still the dream destination for many travellers.  Sitting on the border with the Karen State of Burma Mae Hong Son attracts visitors from near and far and despite it's remote location the city has a good travel link with a centrally located airport accessible from Chiang Mai in less than 30 minutes.

Khun Yuam

Khun Yuam
Most popular during early November when the nearby mountains are a blaze of Yellow with sunflowers.  Khun Yuam is a small town about 60 kilometres outside of Mae Hong Son and due to it's location being on the junction towards Mae Chaem and Thailand's Highest Mountain Khun Yuam is sadly missed by many travellers.

Mae Chaem
Very often used as a base for overnight stays for visits to Doi Inathanon (Thailand's highest mountain).  Mae Chaem is a satellite agricultural town for the local hill tribe people mainly the Lisu Tribe and a perfect start for travellers taking on the Mae Hong Son Loop in a clockwise direction.

Mae Sot

Mae Sot
The gateway to a great adventure region that due to it's location attracts only more serious travellers looking to explore a region undisturbed by mainstream tourism.  Mae Sot lies 3 kilometres from the Burmese border and a gateway for foot travellers to embark on a brief visit into Burma and for those looking to re-stamp their visas for Thailand,  Mae Sot is also the main base for many international aid agencies working with the refugees fleeing the nearby Karen state of Burma.

Umphang

Umphang
Home of Thailand's highest waterfall and in our opinion the closest you can get to undisturbed Utopia in Thailand.   The reason Umphang has avoided mass tourism is probably due to it's severely remote location and it's ultra twisty highway.  But look at the journey as a part of the 'Umphang Experience" spend some time there and you will be rewarded with an unforgettable adventure and an immersion into true local culture unlike anywhere else in the North!
